The Job

The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible for implementing, maintaining and supporting the EHR and related interfaces. This role oversees clinical consulting engagements, manages the support of quality programs, and partners with clinical leadership to develop and roll-out strategic initiatives.

The Director provides support, strategic planning and utilization recommendations to market-level EHR committees as it pertains to the use of the athenaClinicals EHR platform, and works directly with Clinical Governance Board to set annual goals and develop processes and procedures for the publication of new clinical content.

The Director of Clinical Operations is the organization’s subject matter expert on EHR technology and may be called upon to advise senior management in this area as it pertains to day-to-day operations and long-term strategy. This position acts as the senior escalation point for EHR issues experienced at our care centers, guides the Clinical Operations team in developing workflow enhancement and best practice recommendations for athenaClinicals users, and acts as the liaison between Unified Women’s Healthcare and athenahealth on EHR related matters.

  • Lead the Clinical Operations team, including tactical guidance, goal setting and career development
  • Provide strategic guidance and implementation oversight for athenaClinicals implementations, in partnership with the Implementation team. Coordinate with athenahealth on related matters
  • Ensure the clinical operations team provides high quality service for client questions and issues related to the use of the EHR, in partnership with the Account Management team
  • Design and implement training programs and other educational initiatives for the purpose of creating and implementing EHR best practices across the organization
  • Issues notices and advisories to care centers regarding updates to athenaClinicals and quality program deadlines/extensions
  • Conducts staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by VP of Integration Operations

Essential Job Functions, broken down by % of time:
  • 25% - Lead the Clinical Operations team, including tactical guidance, goal setting and career development
  • 20% - Provide strategic guidance and implementation oversight for athenaClinicals implementations, in partnership with the Implementation team. Coordinate with athenahealth on related matters
  • 20% - Ensure the clinical operations team provides high quality service for client questions and issues related to the use of the EHR, in partnership with the Account Management team
  • 20% Design and implement training programs and other educational initiatives for the purpose of creating and implementing EHR best practices across the organization
  • 10% - Issue notices and advisories to care centers regarding updates to athenaClinicals and quality program deadlines/extensions
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned by VP of Integration Operations

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience required
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 progressive years working with EHR technology from a problem resolution and change management perspective is required
  • Strong familiarity with medical practice operations, and experience working with physicians both face-to-face and remotely required
  • Experience managing teams and developing people
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems
  • Experience improving workflow efficiencies
  • Experience in managing an implementation project for an EHR platform highly desirable
  • Effective time management, logical problem solving and analytical skills with a demonstrated attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
